Sparta turf project update

Sparta - At the Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, Dr. Michael A. Rossi, Jr., Superintendent of Sparta Public Schools, provided a formal update regarding the Sparta High School turf field project. Rossi indicated that the design phase was complete and the permits have been obtained. Greg Somjen, the district's architect, will proceed with the bidding process and construction oversight. A groundbreaking will take place in early spring with expected completion by September 2019.
The project includes stadium-style lighting (to extend daily usage time), a new scoreboard, perimeter fencing, lacrosse netting and goals, soccer goals, new walkways, new visitors bleachers, and a retrofit to the home bleachers for handicap accessibility. When complete, the site that is now Cassels Field will accommodate the marching band, cheerleaders, field hockey, football, boys’ and girls’ lacrosse, boys’ and girls’ soccer and physical education classes.
“Our entire school community will benefit from this project. In many respects, this is a game changer,” Rossi said.
Board of Education President Kelly McEvoy agrees.
“I am genuinely happy for our district and community," McEvoy said.
