An evening of classic rock 'n' roll will feature Bill Hailey's Comets, Gene Chandler, The Happenings and Tommy Mara of The Crests. They are all featured performers in Richard Nader's Good Old Rock 'n' Roll Show, Friday, June 6 at 8 p.m. at Mayo Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $29 to $69.

Bill Haley's Comets are known as the first rock and roll band. The group earned a place in The Guinness Book of World Records for selling 43 million copies of its hit, "Rock Around The Clock." The band is now led by original bass and trumpet player, Al Rappa.

From 1962 to 1970 Gene Chandler put 19 songs in the top 40, but he will be known all over the world as the Duke of Earl, his first hit that topped the pop and R&B charts in 1962 and launched his career.

The Happenings virtually exploded onto the national charts in May of 1966 with their first single release, "See You In September." The song quickly spiraled up the charts to become an international number one record throughout the entire summer. Most recently, Entertainment Magazine has listed "See You In September" in the top 100 summer songs of all time.

Tommy Mara has been referred to as the Pavarotti of Doo Wop, and is now known as "The Meatloaf of Doo Wop." The Crests were a New York R&B doo-wop group, formed by bass vocalist JT Carter in the mid 1950s. Their most popular song, "16 Candles," rose to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1959.

The Mayo Performing Arts Center is located at 100 South St., Morristown. For more information or tickets call the box office at 973-539-8008 or visit www.mayoarts.org.
