— Eleven students were honored as April’s Sparta High School Students of the Month on Tuesday, May 27, at the Sparta Board of Education meeting.

Rory Fitzgerald, the Director of Guidance, announced the winners’ names and shared some insights about the accolades each student earned.

The winners included Brianna Cannici for Mathematics, Claire Vreeland for Science, Kyle McGrath and Kathy Crawford for English, Crawford was also honored in the Social Studies category, Jamie Klecha for Art, Yaminah Agosto in World Languages, for excellence in Russian 5, Tiernan Doyle for Music, Emilie Sullivan in Physical Education, Luke McKay for TCC, he is the teacher’s assistant in Broadcast Journalism, Lauren Waselik for Guidance and Alyssa Cox with the Principal’s Award.

Fitzgerald emphasized among the student achievements, that Waselik walked away the winner of the Sussex County School Counselors Association Caring Award for 2014.

Nominees were chosen from every school in the county and were honored recently at a breakfast.

Cox, who was given the Principal’s Award, works in the Media Center and the school’s main office as a cooperative education student.

“[Cox] has been an excellent role model for the position,” said Fitzgerald.
