— Sebastian Cook, a member of Boy Scout Troop 150, celebrated earning the highest rank of scouting, Eagle Scout, on June 1 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Sparta.

Cook started as a Cub Scout in Pack 80 in 2003. He enjoyed camping at 10 Mile River every year in upstate New York where the boys rode sleds and ice-fished.

Starting off camping in the winter at such a young age allowed Cook to develop the passion for camping in all circumstances.

In 2008 he joined Troop 150 where he continued this passion. Throughout the years at Troop 150, Cook’s camping trips included yearly Klondike winter campouts, Sabattis, a 50-mile canoe trek in the Adirondacks, a week-long excursion to Acadia, Maine, which included days of mountain biking, sea kayaking, and hiking, and a week at Seabase in the Florida Keys, where he enjoyed snorkeling, fishing, and sailing.

The most valuable experience of Boy Scouts for Cook was his week at National Youth Leadership Training. There he learned not only the important qualities of a leader, but also how to work with others to achieve a common goal.

Cook was able to implement what he learned at NYLT during his tenure as Senior Patrol Leader and as a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. The skills have stayed with him to this day and have been key to his growth as an Eagle Scout, a student, and as a conscientious citizen.

He has earned all four Catholic religious awards in scouting and, therefore, earned the “Pillars of Faith” award.

For his Eagle Scout Service Project Cook planned, engineered, and constructed two large welcome signs at the entrance to the White Lake Fields in Sparta.

He is grateful for all of the guidance and mentoring he has received over the years in scouting and would like to thank all of his Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders. Without their dedication, his journey to the Eagle rank would have been immeasurably more difficult. In particular, Sebastian wanted to thank Scoutmaster at Troop 150 Joe Fucito for his time and dedication to Troop 150.
