— The 2014 Frank Redfern Memorial Golf Open took place on Monday, July 14, at the Lake Mohawk Country Club in Sparta.

The annual charity event is in honor of the late Sussex County entrepreneur Frank Redfern. Redfern was the driving force behind the Barn Hill Care Center in Newton.

The Frank Redfern Memorial Golf Open is an annual event which began in the 1970's that raises funds for Newton Medical Center. Through the years, The Frank Redfern Memorial Golf Open in conjunction with the Newton Medical Center Foundation has raised over $1 million.

Golf participants enjoyed a round of 18-hole golf, along with lunch and dinner, followed by an awards ceremony and raffle drawing at the Lake Mohawk Golf Club.

The golf course is located at the base of a mountain ridge and overlooks Lake Mohawk.

Each year the Frank Redfern Memorial Golf Open benefits the Newton Medical Center Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Newton Medical Center. The foundation exists to serve the present and future health and wellness needs of the community and beyond.

Since its inception philanthropic gifts to the foundation, including proceeds from the events like the golf outing, has exceeded $28 million.
