— Mary Wick, 15, from Sparta placed 14th out of 190 top champion competitors worldwide at the World Irish Dance Championships in Dublin, Ireland, April 9-16, 2017.

After qualifying at the regional championships last November, placing 3rd out of 130 competitors, Wick of the Wick-Hegarty School recently represented New Jersey and the Mid-Atlantic region competing in Dublin. Placing 14th, Mary earned a coveted and rare World Medal which also automatically qualifies her to compete at the World Championships next year in Glasgow, Scotland.

Along with 190 competitors from around the globe, Mary first performed two dances, a hard shoe and a soft shoe. She was among the top 50 dancers called back to perform a set dance which is a performance featuring intricate rhythms, elevated jumps and stylish choreography.

The marks from seven adjudicators were distilled down to a final ranking of the 50 dancers. Mary placed 14th - the top dancer from the Mid-Atlantic region and the 3rd North American.

Mary is a member of the Wick-Hegarty School which offers classes in Sparta and Denville. For more information visit www.Wick-Hegarty.com or email Regan Wick at Regan@Wick-Hegarty.com
