— United Way of Northern New Jersey has awarded its 2017 Impact Award to Allergan’s office building in Madison, recognizing the pharmaceutical giant’s new U.S. headquarters as the commercial real estate project with the greatest positive impact on the northern New Jersey region this year.

The award was announced during the 18th annual United Way Commercial Real Estate Network Legacy Luncheon, a fundraiser attended by some 450 leading commercial real estate industry professionals.Regina Hartley, vice president of human resources for UPS Information Technology, delivered the keynote address.

United Way raised an estimated $200,000 for its work to improve life for ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) individuals and families who are working but struggling to afford the basics.

“United Way is proud of its long-standing partnership with this industry which recognizes that giving back to local communities is an integral part of doing business,” said Theresa Leamy, United Way senior vice president of resource development. “In addition, United Way congratulates the Allergan building team for its commitment to retaining jobs, providing a competitive workplace environment and helping to boost the regional economy.”

By signing the lease at 5 Giralda Farms, Allergan will not only be keeping 1,000 jobs in the state but has pledged to create an additional 300 new full-time jobs. The renovated 432,000-square-foot building will serve as a larger home for Allergan’s U.S. headquarters and allow for a consolidation of its U.S. operations. The state estimates the consolidation will yield New Jersey more than $385 million in economic value over the next 20 years. Interior renovations include maintaining open workspaces as well as a variety of meeting spaces to foster collaboration. New amenities were added such as a fitness center, café, employee store, conference center, cafeteria and a health suite.
