— Jean M. Manfra School awards its annual scholarship to Alessandra Sturchio of Sparta. The 2017 Pope John XXIII High School graduate was selected from a pool of excellent applicants for her academic accomplishments, her leadership in school and in sports and for her commitment and service to her community. During her high school years, Sturchio was actively involved with field hockey (captain), track, Habitat for Humanity, Key Club and Theatre, among others.

“My aspiration would be to help understand people from a psychological standpoint, and to assist them into becoming the best person they want to be…creating the life they desire,” Sturchio said.

Jean M. Manfra School, a private school offering services to students with intellectual, mental and developmental challenges, inaugurated the scholarship in 2016 for all Sussex County high school seniors planning to attend a two or four-year college or university with a concentration in the human services or special education.

Sturchio will be attending Montclair State University in the fall of 2017. During a luncheon held in her honor, Sturchio received a $1000 check. The Jean M. Manfra School also pledged to continue to provide support and guidance to her during her college career, including internships and observations as needed.

“We want to help young people in our community excel. We want to support them. We are so happy to be awarding this scholarship to such a well-rounded, deserving young lady,” said Scott Allshouse, Jean M. Manfra School Principal.
