— Another great event for Sparta Books took place recently with the premiere of “ Don’t Let Go”, the newest release of acclaimed author Harlan Coben. Coben introduced the book to a sold-out crowd at the Mohawk House on Sept.25.

Although Coben’s last 10 novels have debuted as #1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list, the author could have been a comedian. He entertained the 200 plus crowd with jokes about his teenage daughter’s dismissive reaction to his new book and how all writers are insecure.

“All fiction writing is asking what is,” said Coben. “It takes three things to be a writer: inspiration, perspiration and desperation.”

Born in Newark and raised in Livingston, Coben’s books are set in New Jersey with one of his most notable character’s Myron Bolitar. Titles include: “Home”, “Fool Me Once”, “The Stranger,” and “Missing You.” “Dont Let Go,” is his 30th title.

Currently, “Harlan Coben’s The Five” is a 10 part television series that the Huffington Post deems “ a Netflix series you must discover."

Sparta Books is the only independent bookstore in New Jersey on Coben’s book tour , according to Mindy Kemper, Event Manager of Sparta Books.

In closing Coben praised Sparta books: “To see this many people come out is really humbling. Give it up for Sparta Books- you are lucky you have this independent book store-there are very few left. “

Mohawk House was packed with excited readers who would wait all night for a selfie and signature from Coben.

“I have been looking forward to this. All of his books always have twist and turns,” said Jeannine Hurley.

“I became an immediate fan of Harlan Coben after the first book I read by him, “Gone For Good. I immediately looked him up and found that he had a series of books with a great character Myron Bolitar,” said Beatrice Field of Lafayette. “ I knew I would have to read every book he had written so far. “

This was the first event between Sparta Books and Mohawk House but certainly not the last.

"Mohawk House is proud to partner up with our friends at Sparta Books. It was great welcoming bestselling author Harlan Coben to Sparta when he arrived. Looking forward to more exciting events in the near future,” said Steve Scro, owner of Mohawk House.

“Don’t Let Go” is available at Sparta Books.
