County acts in NJArts benefit

GARWOOD, NJ — Two Sussex County-based performers will join some of New Jersey’s leading roots, folk and Americana acts Sunday, Oct. 1, for a night of music at a benefit show entitled Jay’s Jersey Jams, Vol. 2.
Among those who have agreed to perform that night are: The Shockenaw Mountain Boys (Sussex County), featuring members of Railroad Earth; and guitarist Geoff Doubleday, a singer-songwriter from Sparta.
They will be joining a lineup that includes banjo ace Tony Trischka; mandolin player Barry Mitterhoff, formerly of Hot Tuna; and special guest Lisa Bouchelle, a New Jersey-based singer-songwriter. Ticket proceeds to benefit NJArts.net.
“Not only will October 1 be a day of great music, but it's for a great cause!” says Tim Carbone of the Shockenaw Mountain Boys, which features three members of the renowned “jamgrass” band Railroad Earth. “And Geoff Doubleday is a great songwriter who knows how to put his songs across."
In addition to performing solo and in configurations leading up to a full band, Doubleday has opened for The Contribution – which Relix magazine called a “jam-band supergroup.” Doubleday’s music can be found on YouTube and CD Baby.
Tickets are $20 (plus fee) and are available through Ticketfly.com. The show will take place at The Crossroads in Garwood, N.J., which is easily accessible from Garden State Parkway Exit 137.
Also scheduled to appear: renowned New Jersey band Kinderhook; and Marvin Sunk, a seven-piece group from Monmouth and Ocean counties. Casey Burd, formerly of Jersey Shore favorites 7 Minds, is the ringleader.
Trischka, was inducted into the American Banjo Museum Hall of Fame on Sept. 8 in Oklahoma City, has jammed over the years with Mitterhoff and Carbone, John Skehan and Andy Goessling of Railroad Earth.
“I am looking forward to playing with my friends and for my fans in support of the arts in New Jersey on Oct. 1,” Trischka said.
Bouchelle recently celebrated 1 million streams of her EP, “Lipstick Tomboy.” Her song “Only The Tequila Talkin’ ”, a duet with John Popper of Blues Traveler, has received over 100,000 views on YouTube.
Proceeds will benefit NJArts.net, which was founded by veteran journalist Jay Lustig in 2014 to cover the arts and music throughout the state.
