— The Sparta Spartans defeated the Huntington Bulldogs (Suffolk County, N.Y.) in seventh grade youth football on Sunday, December 3, 2017. The final score was 24-6.

The South East Regional Championship title win allows the Spartans to advance to the national championship game to take place later in the month in Canton, Ohio. The contest was the final of a three game elimination series in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s National Youth Football Championship tournament hosted by Pope John XXIII Regional High School in Sparta.

The series ran for three days December 1 to December 3. Several teams that play in the Mid-Atlantic region participated. The Sparta Spartans defeated the Susquehanna Pennsylvania Ponies (Susquehanna Borough, Pennsylvania) on Friday by the score 16-0. Saturday afternoon the Spartans crushed the Keansburg Titans (Monmouth County, N.J.) 30-0.

The national title games will take place at the Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village December 15 to 17.
