The artwork of Sparta resident Maggie Davis-Jelly will be the featured Aug. 2 through Aug. 31 at the George Segale Studio, White Deer Plaza, Sparta.
There will be a reception at 6 - 9 p.m. on Aug. 2, for friends, family, and the general public. The Exhibit is entitled "Peace of Art."
Davis-Jelly is a 25 year resident of Sparta.
"Maggie’s work reminds me of a simpler time: Not when I was a child, rather, a simpler time in the world," said George Segale. "There is a genuine simplicity in her complex brushwork. I find her work to be calming and refreshing. Each and every piece is an old soul."
Davis-Kelly began painting when her children were small. Her first teacher was Toni Chaplain of Sparta. Davis-Kelly then studied abstract oil painting with Wanda Blake, Mt Arlington, NJ.
“Art is my passion," she said. "It will never cease to bring me joy. Color, shape and form rest in my soul. My work springs from within; body, mind and spirit. Painting keeps me balanced.“
Maggie is the author of the book, “Always Balanced and Connected: Daily Affirmations for Body, Mind and Spirit," published by Balboa Press, a Division of Hay House.
“It’s about not always doing the right thing, but rather doing your best in the moment," she said. "It is not about always staying positive, but rather balancing the good and the bad as it comes up on a daily basis in our lives."
Davis-Jelly started Art by Me: Photography and Art for Non-Profits in 1999. She is a past board member of Family Promise of Sussex County, where she volunteered for 20 years. She has also volunteered for HOW Global, Inc. and Pass-It-Along, Inc.
Maggie donates her artwork for online fundraisers for Project Help Veterans agency in Sussex, Art for Autism in West Tisbury, MA. She is a resident artist at Featherstone for the Arts on Martha’s Vineyard. She's also a longtime member of Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council, and Family Promise, which brings food and shelter to the homeless population.
