— Based on a true story, Tan Swiftwater will introduce his book “Force of Will” at Sparta Books on Saturday, June 2 at 1pm. The somewhat local author chooses to use a pseudonym to tell a true story about a man’s life.

Swiftwater resides in Pennsylvania now, but “Force of Will” occurs in Sparta and nearby areas where he first moved from Long Island in 1985. He considers himself a creative person as a musician and prose writer. Although his day job is one of financial advisor, Swiftwater decided it was time publish a book.

“This story is about a man in his mid-50’s who loses everything he has: wife, job, friends, bank account, reputation, house-nearly everything inside of a week,” said the author. “Everything except his life.”

Swiftwater has a personal connection to the book and therefore uses the pen name.

Below is an excerpt from “ Force of Will.”

"It all started just before midnight in July. Gil Oldfield gets a phone call from his son that shocks him, but leaves him unprepared for his later arrest and the downward spiral that would follow. In rapid succession, he loses his wife, his children, his livelihood, all his assets, his reputation - in essence everything that is important to a man. Determined to live with whatever means he can, Gil embarks on a healing process that leads to discovery - discovery of who shared in the immense web of lies that started that fateful Independence Day in 2012, and the value of trust, real love, and authentic truth.”

He adds that "Force of Will" is also about discovery:

“The book is about healing and determination to move forward. And along the way the character finds out how lies and slander was created that put him in that bad place.”

Tan Swiftwater will be signing books and doing a reading at Sparta Books on June 2 at 1pm. The book is available at Amazon and Sparta Books.
