— Sparta High School held its annual Senior Scholarship Dinner for the Class of 2018 on June 13 at Perona Farms. A total of 43 seniors received scholarships from a varierty of individual, corporate and non-profit sponsors.

Special guests attending the event included local dignitaries, members and staff from the Board of Education as well as Principal Janet Ferraro and Vice Principals Steven Schels and Rory Fitzgerald.

Director of Guidance Kacey Konwiser Dalton, who was also one of the organizers of the Senior Scholarship Dinner, said that each student was chosen for different reasons.

"We have been holding the scholarship dinner for the fourteen years that I have been at Sparta High School," she said. "They are mainly the local Sparta organization scholarships and the primary winners have strong academic as well as community service qualifications. It is a great time for us to come together with our families and celebrate their children's educational and community accomplishments."

There is also an opportunity for students to apply once through a common application, Dalton said, which qualifies them for a variety of awards.

"Our Senior Scholarship Awards Dinner was a wonderful way for us to celebrate the hard work, service and dedication of our seniors," Principal Ferraro said. "Mrs. Dalton and the guidance department did an outstanding job of highlighting all of the students who received scholarships this school year."
