Freedy Johnston to play concert

SPARTA — Freedy Johnston will be performing at 7 p.m, Friday July 18 at Sparta's Dykstra Park.

Johnston was born in Kinsley, Kansas, which is famous for the being the exact midway point between the coasts of the United Stated.

Raised on new wave, rock’n’roll and a bit of country, his start in music brought him to the northeast as a singer and songwriter of masterful, sophisticated tunes. Witty and poignant stories of life gone wrong. His record ‘Can You Fly’ was widely lauded as one of the best albums of the 1990’s.

He scored a hit with the song “Bad Reputation” from ‘This Perfect World’.

Johnston has continued to perform and record music. He’s contributed music to a number of film projects and there is a new record in the works.

The group will include guitarist James Mastro and drummer Steve Goulding.

Opening the show will be Brady Moon, an unplugged trio covering classics and featuring Chris Brady and Scott and Anna Luna.

Show is free to the public and will be held rain or shine.
