Valerio Fonovic, of Sparta, has died at age 66

Valerio Fonovic, 66, of Sparta, NJ passed away on Nov. 11, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Valerio was born in Labin, Croatia and came to the United States in 1971. He was a resident of Sparta for 32 years. Val retired from Sparwick Construction in Lafayette, NJ one year ago. He was a member of Union Local #472. Valerio is survived by his beloved wife Maria Iuliano Fonovic; devoted father of Daniella Raffo and her husband Jason of Sparta, Valerie Frye and her husband Justin of Kinnelon, NJ, Katarina Calandrillo and her husband David of Sparta and Tania Fonovic of Sparta. He was the loving grandfather of Nicholas, Stella, Samantha, Mena, and Julian. Val was the brother of Eda, Lydia, Meica, Doro, Milica, Jani, Gigi and the late Silvano. Friends and family celebrated his life on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St, Sparta, NJ 07871. A funeral mass was held 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 297 Sparta Ave, Sparta, NJ 07871. Interment followed at Sparta Cemetery.
