The Sparta Diamonds Softball program recently closed out another successful season for the girls. On Oct. 24 it was the Fall Softball playoffs for every age group from 10U-16U. Congratulations to the 10A and 12A Sparta Diamonds for bringing home the Fall Titles to Sparta.

As Joe Jacobs, head of the Diamond travel program said, “Only two teams (A & B at each age level) can end the year with a win. I am so proud of the girls from both teams who played their hearts out."

Each team had to win three games in one day to take the crown. Coach Heim of the 10A team said that his girls played their best softball of the year down the stretch, getting stellar pitching and big hits when they needed them to beat the Rockaway Rampage 13-2. The 12A Diamonds added to their collection of 2015 trophies by grinding out a 1-0 win in the semifinals and dominating the NJ Vipers club team 6-1 in the finals.

On Oct. 25, the Sparta teams were back at it, competing in the always tough Vernon Halloween Tournament consisting of top town/club teams from NY and NJ. In the one-day tournament, teams have to win four games in order to earn the title and the 12A Diamonds were up to the task. In a back and forth thrilling championship game, the Diamonds never give up attitude was on display in front of a raucous crowd.

After jumping out on top early, Sparta gave the lead away and trailed by three runs heading into their last at bat. The 12A Diamonds rallied together and put four runs on the board to secure a 9-8 victory over the Duchess NY Debs club team. Coach Hannam said it best: “What a game, what a team, what a season."

The Sparta Diamonds & Recreational Softball Programs would like to thank all of their supporters, sponsors, parents, friends and coaches for a great 2015 season. Spring 2016 preparations are already underway and the girls are anxious to get back on the field and shine like diamonds.
