SPARTA — The Sparta Police Youth Division, sponsored by the Sparta PAL and the Sparta Township Police Department, will be holding its Junior Police Academy from Aug. 20 to Aug. 22 at the Sparta PAL Building on Station Road.

The Academy runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The cost of the program is $50 per family.

The three-day academy is open to any child in the county in fifth grade and older.

The programing provided will focus specifically on choices children make as it pertains to drugs and alcohol. Some of the programs are interactive and some are straight forward about the wrong choices made regarding drugs and alcohol.

Programing will be provided by members from local law enforcement agencies, The Center of Prevention and Counseling in Newton, counselors and clients from DAYTOP New Jersey Adolescent Substance Abuse Program, and special guests who will share their personal experiences on substance abuse.

To pre-register, send an email containing the child’s name, age, school and grade to jbeebe@spartapd.org.

There is no limit to the class size.
