Sparta resident to perform in Opera

— Sparta resident Jonathan Scott will perform with the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera as Marcello in the company's production of Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème on Oct. 26.

Verismo Opera, the house opera company of the Bergen Performing Arts Center, will conclude its 25th anniversary season with this production at the theatre, located at 30 North Van Brunt St. in Englewood, on Sundays, Oct. 19 and 26 at 3 p.m.

Scott, a finalist in the 2013 New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera Annual International Vocal Competition, performed as Giorgio Germont in the company's April 2014 production of La Traviata. He also performed with The Metropolitan Opera Chorus for two seasons in other plays.

In the fall of 2013, he performed the lead role of Papageno in the U.S. premiere of Peter von Winter’s Das Labyrinth, the sequel to Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, with The Amore Opera Company. Scott also performed Ezio from Giuseppe Verdi's Attila with Empire Operain New York.

He studied music at The Westminster College For The Arts in Princeton.

25th Anniversary Season
Led by Artistic Director Lucine Amara, one of the Metropolitan Opera’s most luminary performers, Verismo Opera presents the opera with a full cast in costumes created by Catherine Mirabella and Barbara Konig.

Set in the backdrop of Paris, France, the audience hears Puccini's unmatched gift for melody. La Bohème tells the poignant story of simple joy and heartbreak among a group of young Parisian artists in this universally popular classic.

Under the direction of Stage Director and Canadian soprano Evelyn La Quaif, the fully staged production presents the cast singing in Italian with English supertitles provided.

Verismo Opera presents the production in four acts to the Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. The New Jersey Association of Verismo Orchestra is under the direction of Maestro Anthony Morss. Associate Conductor and Chorus Director leads the Verismo Opera Chorus.
