First Hope Bank highlights hunger fighting organization
Sparta - First Hope Bank’s Sparta office is currently highlighting “Coupons for the Community” as its featured business.
“Our customers were very happy to learn about Coupons for the Community,” said Lidia Zdunek, manager of First Hope’s Sparta office. “People are very kind and wanted to know how they could help.”
Suzanne Stigers, founder and president of the fledgling business, said it all started in October 2009 when she read a New Jersey Herald article with the headline, “Food Pantries Bare.” The next month, she founded Coupons for the Community, a Byram-based organization that helps stock local food pantries by using unwanted store and manufactures’ coupons to stretch the limited dollars available from government funding and public donations.
“Unwanted coupons cost nothing to donate,” Stigers said, “yet we can turn them into more food and non-edible essentials like toiletries and hygiene projects that cannot be purchased with food stamps.”
Officials said Coupons for the Community also welcomes volunteers and monetary donations. To learn more, visit www.CouponsForTheCommunity.org.
