Area libraries now open on Saturdays

NEWTON — All six locations in the Sussex County Library System are now open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
“Our recent community survey revealed increased hours as the number one priority for our patrons,” stated Library Director Will Porter, “and I’m thrilled to announce that we will be taking a step in that direction right away.”
The Sussex County Library System is comprised of six branches. The Dennis (Newton) and Franklin locations have been closed on Saturdays for several years, and the E. Louise Childs (Hopatcong) branch has long closed at 1:00 p.m.
“Patrons of the Main Library in Frankford, and our Dorothy Henry and Sussex-Wantage locations won’t see a change," Porter said. “But the staff has already begun to hear from residents of Franklin and Newton, especially, who are very excited. Between commuting, afterschool activities, and the like, it can be hard to get to the library during the week. Extending our Saturday hours means more time for browsing, homework help, high-speed Wi-Fi access, family programs. . . all the wonderful things our libraries have to offer.”
