Calling all families with boys and girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Local Scouts are hoping that youth will discover the adventure of becoming a Scout at an upcoming Open House on Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. at the Sparta United Methodist Church, 70 S. Sparta Avenue, Sparta. The event is open to all potential Scouts, which now includes boys and girls.
Some highlights of the event include a mini rock climbing wall and use of a BB gun range. Children are also invited to spend the night camping in a tent with other Scouts (a parent must stay with any child spending the night). They will also roast hot dogs, eat s'mores, and sing camp fire songs. It is possible to borrow camping equipment, if needed.
Boys and girls from K through 5 are invited to join Pack 150, which is the family scouting cub scout pack, where boys and girls both participate but are organized into single gender dens. Boys who are age 10 and a half, or who have completed the 5th grade, are invited to join Scouts BSA Troop 150 and girls who are 10 and a half, or who have completed the 5th grade are invited to join Troop 1150. (All 3 units meet at Sparta United Methodist Church.).
