Harold (“Harry”) J. Hakans of Oak Ridge, N.J. passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was 78.

He was born on June 23, 1942, in the Bronx, N.Y., to the late Janet (nee Neill) and the late Gustave Hakans.

Harry married Judith A. Tedeschi in 1969 and resided in Parsippany, N.J., moving in 1974 the Oak Ridge section of Jefferson Township, N.J., where they raised their family, until his passing.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, from 1964 to 1966 in the 51st Infantry and received a medal as an Expert (Rifle M-14).

Harry, also known by many as “Double H,” was a hard-working man and spent most of his career as a machinist between Lembo Machine, Diamond Industrial and Finishing, and Lentron Corporation.

Most mornings were spent enjoying coffee with his better half, Judi, and their everyday talks at 12:15 p.m. for as long as they could remember. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending their softball games and all of their family vacations, as well as hunting and fishing with his lifelong friends.

He will best be remembered for his dynamic smile, being one of “The Guys,” his quick wit, and his timely one-liners, unknowingly being the coolest guy in the room and most of all for the love of his grandchildren.

Harry is survived by his beloved wife, Judi; his loving children, Erik Hakans and his wife, Sandy, and Nicole Skrek and her husband, Frank; his cherished grandchildren, Lucia and Kylie Hakans, and Kama and Karys Skrek; his loving sister, Elizabeth Mangine; his dear sister-in-law Judith Tedeschi; his dear nieces, Annmarie Scorzo, Lisa Beirne, Leanor Steiner, Gina Fulco, and Mary Ann Sahoury; and his dear nephew, Anthony “Tony” Mangine.

Visitation was held May 13 at the Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home, Newfoundland, N.J. The funeral mass took place May 14 at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Oak Ridge. Final disposition was private.
