A souper bowl party was held at both locations of Maxwell and Molly’s Closet in Hamburg and Newton on Feb. 1, the eve of the big game.

Both shops cater to the palates of our canine and feline friends, but there was no Super Bowl game fare like chips and dips, heroes or pizza. Humans were served a delicious cup of Auntie B’s hot, homemade vegetarian chili while the visiting pets noshed on warm Primal bone broth and cold Primal raw goat’s milk.

According to the closet’s owners Bonnie and Rick Bitondo, bone broth is simmered for 48 hours by Primal, the pet food company. It assists with joint health as well as digestion, liver and immune support. The company’s raw goat’s milk which seemed to be a pet delicacy is considered a super pet food and supplements pets’ diets.

“Close to noon, 25 souper bowl humans visited the shop with about 75 percent of the humans bringing their animal best friends,” said Rick, as he served chili and bone broth.

Bonnie manned the store’s stocked aisles, helping customers find that perfect chew toy or discussing a new grain free diet. The shop promotes a dog and cat health food atmosphere with many suggestions for finicky appetites.

Bonnie also spoke about Waggle Tooth, an animal dental item company founded by dentist Dr. Evie Sabet. Both shops also carry Baydog harnesses made by the Chesapeake Bay Dog Company, a made in the USA company founded by Bart O’Brien. This company is a veteran owned business. O’Brien spent eight years as a Marine pilot and served three combat tours in Iraq.
