UMC taps into innovative memory care

    With more than 46 million people worldwide having dementia and with that number rising to 131 million by 2050. United Methodist Communities (UMC) at Bristol Glen, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Newton has expanded its Tapestries Memory Care.

    Located in a secure Assisted Living neighborhood within Bristol Glen, the total number of Tapestries apartments now stands at 21. Tapestries delivers care for residents with brain disorders that affect memory, thinking, behavior, and emotion.

    The Tapestries Model of Care is a holistic approach. In addition to specific training, associates include Life Enrichment Team Specialist (LETS) members. All are well acquainted with residents' health history, previous diagnoses, preferences, personality, and routines. This enables associates to stay engaged with residents, manage unpredictable behaviors, understand body language, interpret nonverbal cues, and break down activities into smaller manageable steps.

    “In tandem with the construction, we are updating our entire Tapestries environment and utilizing the Tapestries Model of Care to be highly person-directed and engaging," said Executive Director Jeff Lisk.

    Tapestries employs skilled, certified associates, 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, and who work with residents’ families to improve their loves ones’ well-being.
