Byram honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice
Byram. Quarantine restrictions did not stop the community from paying tribute, as it does every year, to service members and first responders who died serving others.

Despite the quarantine restrictions, Byram Township found a virtual way to honor fallen service members and the township’s first responders.
Every Memorial Day, there is typically a brief but solemn ceremony at the Memorial Monument on Mansfield Drive for service members who died in service. The ceremony is followed by a parade on Route 206. Another ceremony near the Cranberry Lake Clubhouse is then held in remembrance of the township’s departed fire, police and first aid personnel.
This year everything except the parade has been captured in a video posted on Memorial Day on the township’s Facebook page.
Richard Bowe, former mayor and veteran, provided appropriate comments at the memorial, supported by Mayor Alex Rubenstein, the Byram Police Department, and the Boy Scouts from Troop 276.
At Cranberry Lake, the traditional wreath was placed in the water by a scout from Troop 1151 in remembrance of first responders. An honor guard was provided by scouts from Troop 151, and Taps was played by the senior patrol leader of Troop 276. The video was provided by Joe Baron, a township resident and professional photographer/videographer.
Recognizing the great significance of Memorial Day, all the participants hope Byram residents will take a few minutes out of their day to watch the video and remember those who died serving others.
