Chess places 6th in national K-9 Chess Championships

The Sparta Middle School Chess Team placed 6th in the National K-8 Chess Championships held in Grapevine, Texas.
Ian Bellush led the effort with 5 wins. Griffin Brawer had 4.5 and Rowan Mendel had 4. JC Langeraap and Surekha Selvaraj
rounded out the team. The team also placed 10th in the Speed event while playing a man short. JC Langeraap led the team with 6 wins,
and was assisted by Bellush and Brawer.
Helen Morgan School also had a team in the U1000 Section. Aneesh Iyer, and Imad Panjwani had five wins each, with Mason Langeraap aiding the effort. Chloe Brawer had five wins in the U750 event. Ayush Iyer was the first Sparta Middle School student to play in the Open Championship.
Ian Bellush, JC Langeraap, Chloe Brawer, Aneesh Iyer, and Imad Panjwani all received individual recognition. Coach Tom Murray and Ian Bellush placed first in the Coach-Player event.
