Sparta Chess heads to regionals and nationals

    The Sparta Chess Team crushed the opposition in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships held in Baltimore.
    Both the Sparta High School Varsity, and the Sparta Middle School (SMS) team seach won their respective championships. The High School team was led by Akshat Iyer's first place undefeated individual score. Akshat's team members included Lucas Rendina, Karthik Selvaraj, Brian Smith, and Cole Potter. The top three players from SMS, also played in the section, and finished second as a team. They were Griffin Brawer, Ayush Iyer, and Rowan Mendel.
    The SMS team finished first in the middle school division. Ian Bellush and JC Langeraap led the team with strong contributions from Surekha Selvaraj, and Chloe Brawer.
    Helen Morgan School had four players participating. Imad Panjwani, Mason Langeraap, Aneesh Iyer, and Nicholas Schimpf.
    Abigail Juan represented Mohawk Ave School.
    The team will be playing in state tournaments and national championships in Chicago, and Dallas. Sparta Chess Club is a 501(c)3 non-profit, and is always appreciative of any cash donations.
