Sparta. Girl Scout Cadette Troop 6565 of Sparta completed a take-action project by planting a weeping Yoshino cherry tree.

The girls worked together to research the best place to plant a tree and then the types of trees that thrive in northern New Jersey. They chose the weeping Yoshino tree unanimously.

The girls purchased the tree from Sparta Nursery and Garden Center with the money they earned selling cookies.

The tree was planted in Sparta on the grounds of the pastor’s residence at the Presbyterian Church.

By planting this tree, the girls also contributed to the Girl Scout Tree Promise, which aims to plant five million trees to protect the planet from the effects of climate change.
