Man sleeping in car arrested for drug possession
On Jan. 26, the Byram Township Police Department responded to a call reporting that a man was possibly sleeping in his vehicle at ShopRite. It was reported that the man did not wake up when a citizen knocked on his window.
When officers arrived, they spoke to the driver, Tyler J. Lister of Newton, N.J., who appeared to be intoxicated. Due to Lister’s state of intoxication, field sobriety tests were not conducted, and Lister was placed under arrest.
A search of his vehicle produced a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. Lister was transported to the New Jersey State Police barracks in Netcong, where he gave breath samples and was examined by a NJSP Drug Recognition Expert.
Lister was charged with the following and turned over to the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office before being transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility: Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (third degree), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Under the Influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Driving While Intoxicated, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a Motor Vehicle, and Reckless Driving.
