SHOPPER ALERTS POLICE TO POSSIBLE SHOPLIFTER

On 11/23/2019 at approximately 12:30 pm, a Shoprite customer approached off duty police officers, who were volunteering for a holiday food drive, and stated that she witnessed a white male taking items from underneath his clothing and put the items underneath a parked vehicle, before going back into the store. The items were retrieved and officers located the suspect, 40 yr old William Lasala of Wantage, NJ, inside the store with additional items inside his jacket. On duty patrols responded and placed Mr. Lasala under arrest for shoplifting, transporting him to Sparta Police HQ to be processed. He was charged with Shoplifting and advised of a mandatory court appearance before being released.
