SPORTS. Local students can learn fencing on a competitive level with the National Fencing Alliance in Sparta.

The week of Aug. 12 to Aug. 16, 2019 the National Fencing Alliance (NFA) hosted a fencing summer camp in Sparta. Youth and high schoolers from beginner to intermediate, learned the art of fencing with saber and foil.

Campers learned at official high school and US Fencing Alliance competition rules for footwork and weapons techniques in individual and group lessons, for team and individual bouts.

On Friday, Aug. 16, the last day of camp, students competed at the NFA Individual Camp Fencing Championships.

2019 Spartans Summer Camp Tour Final Results:

Youth Beginner Saber: Jeannette Zachock, first place, Brianna Zachok, second place.

Cadet Foil: Adam Mustafa.

Junior Saber: Allen Trudnos, Richard DeVito, Avery Craften, Benjamin Giralt, Griffin Brawer, Adam Mustafa.

Starting in September, NFA at Sparta will offer special group fencing lessons on Wednesdays, at 4 p.m.. Fencing equipment may be used without cost. Registration is first come, first served, and limited. Minimum age is 7. For more information, call 973-910-3774 or visit www.nationalfencing.com.
