Veritas claims Tip-Off Tournament Title in Maryland

Sparta. The girls of Veritas Christian Academy won four straight games this season on the way to winning the season title this weekend in Maryland.

The Veritas Christian Academy girls’ varsity basketball team has picked up right where they left off last season by claiming another tournament title. This time the Lady Lions won the Perry Hall Christian Tip-Off Tournament title this past weekend in Maryland.

The Lady Lions won four straight games on their way to the title. Veritas defeated Key School from Annapolis, MD 32-16 in the first round after racing out to a 16-2 first quarter score. In the second round, Veritas beat the Gladiators from Glen Arms (MD) 41-24. Veritas jumped out to a 16-1 first quarter lead and a 26-9 score at halftime. In the semi-finals, the Lady Lions beat Oakcrest School from Arlington, VA 44-12.

In the finals, Veritas played a strong Concordia Prep team from Towson, MD. Veritas jumped out to a 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter with a suffocating defense and lead 19-11 at halftime. Veritas finished the game off with a 14-10 second half run to win the title by a 33-24 score. The Lady Lions stifling defense was the difference in the game, after holding opponents over the weekend to an average of 19 points per game.
