Let’s once and for all dispel the myth that I am, as some like to claim, “the spokesman for the Sussex County Democratic Party”. And I’ll do it with the words of another Democrat.
There’s someone named David de Wit who is running as a Democrat for a seat on the Hampton Township Committee. It’s his second attempt in as many years; in 2020 he finished third in a four-person race for two seats, defeated by an almost 2-to-1 margin. In a town dominated by Republicans, his chances of changing last year’s outcome are slim.
So, in an attempt to gain some publicity for himself - and apparently because he has little else to run on - David has decided, as a-ha once sang, to “Take On Me”.
In a piece of tripe posted this week in Straus Newspapers (The Township Journal, The Advertiser, et al), de Wit starts by saying “I am a Sussex County Democrat running for office and Michael Schnackenberg is no spokesman for me”. Hey, Dave, thanks for clearing that up. The thing is, I never claimed to be a spokesman for you. I don’t even know you, much less ever heard of you before I read your idiotic letter.
As for claiming that I’m a “Democratic Party operative”: wrong again. Those words came from Joe Labarbera, the Vice Chairman of Communications for the Sussex County Republican Party. No Democrat has ever claimed me, and I don’t answer to anyone on the SCDC. You may want to check your own facts, Dave!
Oh yeah, I don’t need to be “loved and supported” by anyone other than my fiancée. But if you check my Facebook blog, you’ll see I have over 700 followers, and steadily growing. Your Facebook page has...63 followers. Who’s got the support, DD?
And as I said, I’m not a member of the Democrat Committee. I am a registered Democrat, a resident of Sussex County, and a United States citizen. That gives me the same rights as you do. If you don’t like my opinions or posts, that’s your right. But to compare me to someone who flies a sign profanely denigrating President Biden and saying I should be “locked in a room for eternity (with that person)” shows what a narrow-minded troll you truly are.
I’d wish you luck in the election, Dave, but you need a miracle
