Making the case for literacy volunteers

| 14 Mar 2019 | 10:52

Almost everyone reading this letter has encountered people who were struggling with their English. And you've probably thought how much easier things would be both for them and for you if they had more facility with the language. That is the purpose of LiteracyNJ . Volunteer tutors of the LNJ Sussex-Warren Branch help adults, whether foreign-born or U.S.-born to master or improve their English.
We have a waiting list of people wanting to be tutored, so we need more tutors. We will provide training for anyone interested in this rewarding mission. You do not need experience as a teacher, and you do not need to know the language of your student. Our training consists of three in-person classes interspersed with online instruction. The classes will be offered at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton at 6-9 p.m. on three Tuesdays: April 9, April 23, and May 7.
There is no charge for this training, but a $45 donation is requested to cover the training materials. There is a reward for your efforts: the gratification of enhancing a life. Register for the training by contacting LNJ-Sussex at 973-300-9444 or emailing training@literacynj.org.
