May 3
James H. Shadis, 25, of Newton, pled guilty to the third degree crimes of possession of a rifle without a permit, use of a stolen credit card and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Sentencing is presently anticipated for June 21, 2013.
He admitted to stealing a rifle and selling it to a firearms shop and also stealing a credit card and using it. Finally, he admitted to possession of a small amount of heroin that was found at the time of his arrest. The matter was investigated by New Jersey State Trooper M. Buchell.
May 6
Heidi M. Asencio, 30, of Vernon, pled guilty to receiving stolen property and four counts of shoplifting, all crimes of the third degree. Sentencing is presently anticipated for June 11, 2013.
In pleading guilty, Asencio admitted that she and a co-defendant were in possession of a stolen vehicle from a business in Vernon on October 15, 2012. She further admitted that she took merchandise from the A&P in Vernon on August 8, 2012, without paying for it and that she and another co-defendant took merchandise from the A&P in Wantage on three separate occasions on August 27, 2012, September 5, 2012 and September 25, 2012, again without paying for it.
Angel M. Santos, 52, of Sparta, pled guilty to driving while suspended, a crime of the fourth degree, and to the motor vehicle offense of failing to report an accident. Sentencing is presently anticipated for June 28, 2013.
In pleading guilty, Santos admitted that, on January 30, 2012, in Sparta, he was operating a motor vehicle while his driving privileges were suspended and was involved in a motor vehicle accident which he failed to report to police.
Alton Griffin, 50, of Franklin, pled guilty to the second degree crime of possession of a handgun without a permit, a third degree crime of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and DWI. Sentencing is presently anticipated for June 28, 2013.
He admitted to possessing a handgun without a permit on September 7, 2012 in Sussex. That matter was investigated by New Jersey State Trooper J. McCarthy. He also admitted to possession heroin and being under the influence of heroin while operating a motor vehicle during the course of a motor vehicle stop in Franklin on October 18, 2012. The matter was investigated by Franklin Police Sgt. S. Geddis.
May 7
Sussex County Prosecutor David J. Weaver announced that the Sussex County Grand Jury handed up an indictment to the Honorable N. Peter Conforti at the courthouse in Newton on May 2, 2013. The indictment charges Shpendim Ziba, 48, of Oak Ridge, with theft by deception and three counts of issuing bad checks, all third degree crimes. The case was investigated by Detective R. Mosner of the Andover Township Police Department. The Grand Jury alleges that on or between February 22, 2012 and June 26, 2012 Ziba issued several checks to a local business knowing the account the check were written on had insufficient funds at the time.
Sussex County Prosecutor David J. Weaver announced that the Sussex County Grand Jury handed up an indictment to the Honorable N. Peter Conforti, at the courthouse in Newton on May 2, 2013. The indictment charges Robert J. Farley, 63, of Landing, with driving while suspended for a second or subsequent violation of R.S. 39:4-50, a fourth degree crimes. The case was investigated by Patrolman W. Sutphen of the Hopatcong Borough Police Department. The Grand Jury alleges that on December 14, 2012 Farley was observed driving and going over the double yellow lines. He was stopped, failed field sobriety tests and it was learned that his driving privileges were suspended.

The indictment charges Christopher J. Schick, 49, of Newton, with two counts of burglary, both third degree crimes. The case was investigated by DSG M. Monaco of the Town of Newton Police Department. The Grand Jury alleges that on February 24, 2012 Schick illegally entered two residences in Newton and took property from both homes.

The indictment charges Charles R. Harms, age 50, of Newton, with driving while suspended for a second or subsequent violation of R.S. 39:4-50, a fourth degree crimes. The case was investigated by Patrolman M. Wolanski of the Town of Newton Police Department. The Grand Jury alleges that on May 10, 2012 Harms was observed failing to yield to a pedestrian. He was stopped and it was learned his driving privileges were suspended.
May 10
William T. Flood, 51, of Andover, was sentenced to five years probation on condition that he serve 364 days in the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility with credit for 117 days served. He must also undergo a TASK evaluation and follow all recommendations, attend AA meetings, remain medication compliant, undergo random drug testing, forfeit firearms, submit a DNA sample, pay $280 in fines and $245 restitution.
He pled guilty on April 9, 2013, to 3rd degree unlawful possession of a shotgun and 4th degree criminal mischief.
When Byram Police responded to a domestic dispute in January the defendant was found to have unlawful possession of numerous weapons, including a shotgun. After being placed in a police patrol car he kicked the rear camera, chewed the radar antenna wire and spit all over the rear portion of the car.
Joshua R. Murch, 30, of Andover, was sentenced to seven years in the New Jersey Department of Corrections with a three year period of parole ineligibility and was sentenced to parole supervision for life. He has 275 days credit for time already served. Murch must also register under Megan’s Law, submit a DNA sample, complete sex offender therapy and pay fines and penalties of $2,105.
He pled guilty on November 14, 2012, to 2nd degree sexual assault.
In 2011 while working as a security guard at the Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center the defendant engaged in sex acts with a female patient, who suffers from mental and physical health issues.
Anthony Troyano, 39, of Hopatcong, pled guilty to possession of a controlled dangerous substance, a third degree crime. Sentencing is presently anticipated for June 7, 2013.
He was the subject of a motor vehicle stop which revealed three outstanding warrants. Upon a search of his vehicle, he was found to be in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
May 13
Walter J. Orchard IV, 36, of Landing, pled guilty to aggravated assault with significant injury, a crime of the third degree. Sentencing is presently anticipated for July 19, 2013.
In pleading guilty, Orchard admitted to punching another person causing multiple injuries and rendering the victim unconscious. The incident occurred in Hopatcong on September 9, 2012.
