30th Annual Sparta Day happening, rain or shine

    SPARTA-The 30th Annual Sparta Day, a family fun festival, will occur on Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mohawk Avenue School in Sparta, rain or shine. Sparta Day will feature an arts and craft fair, amusement rides, food, games, and ongoing entertainment. In addition to over 100 vendors, there will be an ongoing wood carving demonstration, Sparta fire truck for exploration, and new this year will be amusement rides for toddlers. This event is sponsored by the Junior Woman's Club of Sparta and the Sparta Parks and Recreation Department. The Sparta Day Run is an eight mile run around Lake Mohawk. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Lake Mohawk Boardwalk. Race time is 8 a.m. The cost is $8 for pre-registered runners and $10 for day-of-race registrants. The 8th Annual Sparta Day Open Tennis Tournament will be held June 11 and June 12. (This is the only portion of Sparta Day that has rain dates of June 18 and June 19.) It is sponsored by the Lake Mohawk Tennis Club, Lake Mohawk Country Club, and the Sparta Recreation Department. The track and field meet that was to be held on Ungerman Field as part of Sparta Day will not be held this year. All proceeds from Sparta Day, including the 50/50 raffle, will benefit the Junior Woman's Club General Fund. The club, a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, is a volunteer service organization whose proceeds go to many worthy charitable causes.
