BYRAM-Swimming, hiking, bicycling, picnicking... it's summertime. This summer the Byram Township Parks and Recreation Department has found a way to combine the beautiful outdoors and the arts: the free, family "Arts in the Park" series, on Sunday nights at 6 p.m., at Neill Gylling Park on Mansfield Drive in Byram Township. Residents are encouraged to bring a blanket and bug spray and leave their wallets at home. On Sunday, July 10, the West Morris Community Concert Band will kick off the season with a program of classic and patriotic tunes just right for a summer night. On Sunday, July 17, a program of Gilbert and Sullivan "A La Carte" will be presented by Cameo Productions. This evening of lively music, clever rhyme, silliness and satire is fully costumed and performed by four professional singers/actors. On Sunday, July 24, the Mark Rust Family Music Concert is on the bill, featuring song, dance, humor, and audience participation for old and young alike. On Sunday, July 31, Gerald Fierst, an award-winning storyteller, will weave his magic with tales from around the world. Participants need to bring their imagination and sense of wonder. On Sunday, August 21, folks can put on their dancing shoes when the Kootz Rock ‘n Roll Band takes the stage. Glenn Taylor brings his New Jersey-based band to rock to the classic hits of the 60's and 70's. In addition, attendees can enjoy the programs from their own bistro table with a bottle of sparkling cider, and a small cheese and cracker plate, for a donation of $30. All proceeds will support the free Byram "Arts in the Park" summer series. Corporate, business, and family support is needed to help this program continue and grow. Any donation to the "Arts in the Park" series is appreciated. To reserve a table or for further information, call the Byram Township Parks and Recreation Department at 973-347-2500 ext.161.
