NEWTON — Drama Geek Studios production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast takes the stage at the Performing Arts Center at Sussex County Community College from Dec. 1 to Dec. 17. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 pm, Sunday matinee performances are at 2 pm, and the Saturday matinee performances at 2 pm features the young adult and understudy cast. Music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton, Drama Geek Studios’ production is directed by Joshua Reed with choreography by Lori Tomlin. Step into the enchanted world of Broadway's modern classic, Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
The show features two casts, the adult cast that will be performing on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm, and Sunday matinee at 2 pm, and the understudy cast and young performers that will perform at the Saturday matinee at 2 pm.
“At Drama Geek Studios one of our missions is to foster a creative space where the developing actors have an opportunity to learn, build confidence and perform,” said Josh Reed, who is also the artistic director at Drama Geek Studios. “Giving the young actors the opportunity to perform on stage in front of a live audience is essential, and they are doing an amazing job!”
