Building a stairway to business success

VERNON-Most of the things that we use on a daily basis we tend to take for granted and really only think about them when they break or when we decide that we would like new ones. Where would you go if you needed your stairs repaired, modified or you just plain wanted a new set? As it happens, not too far, because Vernon resident Jeff Struck recently started Highland Stairs which, as the name suggests, specializes in complete stair building and railing installation. "There are not a lot of people doing this, and some of the bigger companies that are tend to shy away from the labor-intensive stuff that we specialize in," said Struck. Struck has been in the construction business for more than 25 years and worked for Glen Rock Stairs in Franklin Lakes for eight years. "I wasn't sure at the beginning that there would be enough work, but as it turned out I have people telling me all the time that they wished they had known about me when they were getting this or that done," he said.
