NEWTON - Joe Biuso, chairman of the Henry Ryerson Civil War Round Table, will lead a discussion on the causes of the Civil War during the group’s next meeting to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the theater at Sussex County Community College. When most people are asked what caused the Civil War, they will usually say slavery, or states’ rights, or high tariffs. However, there is some doubt about whether any of these ideas are correct. Biuso will address the issue, not from a current perspective, but from a historical one -- what people really felt during the Civil War. Many of those sentiments were quite different from what we may believe today. The format of the session will be a lively discussion involving members of the audience. All opinions will be welcomed and meeting organizers believe everyone will leave with a better understanding of what really caused the Civil War. Admission is free and open to the public.
