— Come and enjoy our special music-filled March meeting of the Colonel Henry Ryerson Civil War Round Table on March 20, 2018, 7:30 pm, at our meeting location at Bristol Glen, 200 Bristol Glen Drive, Newton, New Jersey. Come through the main entrance and the receptionist will direct you to the Town Hall meeting room. Admission is free.
In celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day, our meeting will be a fun evening of live Civil War Irish and popular music performed by Jeff and Jan Ausfahl of the “Slateford Creek” band. Whether you enjoy classics such as Wild Rover or Whiskey in the Jar, or the toe tapping rhythms of Irish jigs and reels, this will be an enjoyable meeting celebrating music popular during the Civil War.
Jeff Ausfahl’s first banjo job was on Broadway in New York City in the 1980’s. Since then he has devoted himself to the unique tuning of the Irish banjo and octave mandolin. He has a master’s degree in classical guitar from Montclair State University and has toured America, Europe, and the South Pacific extensively.
Folk instruments have always fascinated Jan Ausfahl and she has incorporated the Irish tin whistle, the Italian tamburello, the English concertina, and even the Colombian maracas into her Celtic music.
Slateford Creek is just two people but comes with lots of interesting, worldly sounds! Come have a pleasurable evening listening to them.
