Cornerstone Playhouse offers two holiday shows and seasonal spirit

Sussex — Cornerstone Playhouse is all decked out like a Christmas tree and the schedule is packed with family entertainment. The playhouse, located in the borough of Sussex, makes a handsome seasonal background for family photos at night, under the twinkly white lights or inside by any of the holiday trees. “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” a favorite holiday one-act opera by Menotti tops the bill. It tells the story of Amahl, a poor, disabled shepherd boy, and his mother, who are visited by the Three Kings on their journey to see the Christ Child. It is recommended as an enjoyable introduction into the world of opera for children of all ages. Performances will be held Dec. 9, 10 and Jan. 6 and 7, at 8 p.m., and on Dec. 11 and Jan. 8 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults; $13 for students and seniors. For information or reservations, call 973-702-0687. "'Tis the Season," is a fun-filled performance about the holiday season with carols, holiday songs, a visit from Santa, his reindeer and Mrs. Claus. The evening is capped off with a living nativity. The evening is suitable for all ages and there are group participation numbers where the audience is asked to join in with Rudolph (all the kids get antlers), a holiday competition of a spirited “12 Days of Christmas” and of caroling during the living nativity. There will be two performances on Dec. 18, at 3 and 7 p.m. For tickets and information call 973-702-0687. Cornerstone Playhouse is located at the historic Crescent Theater at 74 Fountain Square in Sussex. The theater is handicapped accessible.
