DARE Day 2005 was a huge success, according to the program coordinator, Officer Sue Jespersen. "The weather cooperated, and everyone had a great time." Friday afternoon was spent at Station Park, where 400 fifth grade students from Mohawk Avenue and the Rev. Brown schools celebrated the end of the school year's DARE program. The highlight of the day was a visit from retired NJ Devils Hockey player Ken Daneyko, who spoke to the students about his own struggles with alcoholism. Field games and challenges were provided by Steve Cane and John Wilkins, owners of Health and Body in Sparta, and Batman even made an appearance driving the Batmobile. "If the DARE program, which stands for drug abuse, resistance, and education, can help just one child, then we've done our job," said Officer Jespersen. (Photos by Lori Price)
