Fanciful tree featured in holiday show
On Dec. 7, the Immaculate Conception choir, under the direction of Rosanne Huttman, will present “Billy Balsam,” a fanciful tale of self sacrifice, bravery and the true meaning of Christmas. The story has been delighting audiences since 1958, when William Schneider set pen to paper to bring the tale to life. It is the story of a Christmas tree, Billy, who has aspirations of being chosen the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, “the greatest honor that can come to any Christmas tree.” Instead, following an imminent call to bravery, Billy discovers his true calling as the story unfolds. The play has been recorded and performed numerous times, by such actors as Julie Harris, Arlene Dahl, Barry Bostwick, Hannah Storm and Bill Evans. The show will be given in two performances, one at 3:30 p.m. and one at 7 p.m. at the church, 75 Church Street in Franklin. For more information call 973-827-9575. The group will also be taking orders for professionally produced CD’s of the complete narration and musical sound track of this modern Christmas classic. They will be for sale for $12 per CD (cash or check made out to cash) with all the proceeds benefiting Immaculate Conception Church.
