Vernon — The Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge and Double V Rod and Gun Club will host a fishing event on Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The refuge is allowing access to an area normally closed to the public at 285 Lake Wallkill Road in Vernon for this catch and release fishing weekend. Fishing licenses are not required since this coincides with New Jersey’s free fishing days. A limited number of fishing poles will be available for loan. Families should bring their own bait and tackle. In addition, refuge volunteers are offering a special fly fishing class to children age 10 and older. Pre-registration is requested for the class. All equipment will be provided. The event is free. For more information and to pre-register call the refuge at 973-702-7266, ext. 10, Monday through Friday.
