Flute-guitar duo to play at SCCC

    NEWTON-Sussex County Community College will present the Flute and Guitar Duo of Philadelphia at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 6. Flutist Tom Meany and guitarist Michael Simmons formed the duo in 1990. Their repertoire comprises music from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods as well as contemporary works. Thomas Meany, a graduate of the Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts, is the current President of the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia. Michael Simmons, who holds a bachelor's degree in music from The University of the Arts and a graduate degree in music history and guitar performance from Temple University, is an active solo guitar performer and a member of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Trio. The duo has released a CD featuring the music of Handel, Faure, Villa-Lobos, Piazzolla, and others. Admission to the concert is $3. For more information, call 973-300-2116.
