Fossil digs at Sterling Hill Mines

OGDENSBURG — Dig for fossils using an ID chart on Nov. 12 and ask questions of a paleontologist. This Saturday is the last opportunity in 2011 to dig for fossils at the Sterling Hill Mining Museum until next spring. Visitors get to keep six of the fossils they find to take home. The event repeats every half hour beginning at 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. for a fee of $4.50 per individual. Each session is limited to 25 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The last session at 12:30 p.m. is not recommended for those who plan to take the 1 p.m. mine tour. Reservations in advance are appreciated for groups of three or more. Groups of 10 or more can reserve other time slots by appointment. Groups of 15 or more can reserve any day of the week pending staff availability. To make a reservation, call 973-209-7212.
