'Godspell' at Pax Amicus

BUDD LAKE The Pax Amicus production of the Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak musical Godspell runs weekends through Aug. 20 at Pax Amicus Castle Theatre on 23 Lakeshore Road in Budd Lake. Tickets are $20-25 with discounts available for senior citizens and groups. Godspell is a fun, modern day retelling of New Testament parables from the Gospel According to Matthew and the Gospel According to Luke. The show is funny, touching, spiritual and moving. Godspell uses contemporary themes to illustrate the parables, with the ensemble cast bringing these lessons to life through very physical, comedic, and sometimes sentimental presentations of the stories. Godspell’s basic theme of building a community based on kindness and hope plays very well in today’s pressing times and explains why the show remains one of the most often produced musicals of all time. Godspell is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its Broadway debut this year and features a marvelous score by composer/lyricist and legend Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, The Baker’s Wife, Children of Eden). The talented cast includes Esteban Vazquez of Rockaway as Jesus, Scott Baird of Rockaway as John the Baptist/Judas and an ensemble cast featuring Chris Frazier of Whippany, Cory Herbert of Boonton, Tom Fritzky of Byram, Jessica Nichole Harrison of Flanders, Kelly Miller of Rockaway, Jamie Lynn Metzger of Pohatcong, Abigail Grace of Jefferson, Katy Hannon of Budd Lake, Amanda Boyer of Budd Lake, and Joshua Boyer of Budd Lake, Jonathan Hartman of Washington and Jade Turner of Mount Arlington.
