Jazz/rock jam band at historic theater

Blairstown — Mark Egan one of the foremost bass players in music will be appearing with the Unit 1, a jazz-rock jam trio, at the Historic Blairstown Theatre Friday, Dec. 16. The group also features Karl Latham, of Sparta, on drums and John Hart on guitar. Egan began playing with Latham and Hart in 2004, Egan has performed with artist ranging from Sting to Pat Metheny. He’s played on platinum, gold and Grammy-winning albums. Egan has played with a wide range of artists, including Carly Simon, John McLaughlin, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Franks, Judy Collins, Duran Duran, Gil Evans, Stan Getz, Marianne Faithfull, David Sanborn and Marc Cohn. His bass grooves have been heard in movies and television shows, including Aladdin, The Color Of Money, A Chorus Line, NBC Sports, ABC’s All My Children, CNN/Headline News and numerous award-winning television commercials. His most satisfying and noteworthy gigs have been with the Pat Metheny Group and his own group, Elements. A local trio, Different Perspective, comprised of rising young Sparta jazz talents including Latham protege drummer Jared Decker, bassist Sean Decker and guitarist Matt Hespelt will be opening for Unit 1.
